Shirley Community Charter
Neighbourhood Week 2005 ended last month with some Shirley community groups signing the Shirley Community Charter, a document that spells out the community’s vision, and how its people will work together to achieve this goal.
The charter, a community initiative, came into being after several years of operation of the Shirley Inter-agency Community Network, which was set up in 2001. Research had previously suggested that better co-ordination among existing services and facilitation of community networking was needed, among other things.
The charter is available to be signed by groups working in the area which were unable to be there on the day. Eventually the charter will be framed and hung in the Shirley Public Library.
