School MTB champs

Through its Growing Sport Fund, the Council is supporting this month’s Canterbury Secondary School Mountain Bike Championships, on at Halswell Quarry, with practice on 9 December and racing proper on Saturday, 10 December. Anyone interested in this increasingly popular pastime should go along and watch.

Organisers are expecting up to 300 riders — about 200 doing downhill and 100 in cross country races. This year too there is a new category for Year 7 and 8 students. Halswell Quarry is on the corner of Cashmere Rd and Kennedy’s Bush Rd.
