Park to Pier pulls more than 1000 cyclists
Well over 1000 cyclists meandered along the city’s cycleways over Show Weekend as participants in this year’s Park to Pier family bike ride.
For the first time the event was run from two starting points, Hagley Park and Porritt Park, to encourage younger riders and the not-so-fit to participate. About 80 per cent journeyed 12km from Hagley Park to New Brighton Pier while the remainder trekked 5km from Porritt Park. Riders ranged up to 75 years in age.
The winner of this year’s spot prize was Lisa Ewans, her husband Glenn and their children Acacia (22 months), Mikael (6yrs) and Sven (4yrs).
