Mayor’s Friday lunchtime sessions

There is one place during the week where Christchurch residents can command an audience with Mayor Garry Moore and that is in Cathedral Square on Fridays at lunchtime.

Mr Moore has been regularly making himself available for meetings with concerned residents at this time for several years.

When asked recently about the effectiveness of Mr Moore’s lunchtime question and answer sessions, Bill Lloyd (above left), Canterbury’s Battalion President of The Boys’ Brigade, said that they are very beneficial because you know he will be there.

“I wanted to talk to Garry face-to-face so I came to the Square to see him. I know that if I come here at Friday lunchtime that he’ll be here. He’s available and makes you welcome in his busy schedule,” Mr Lloyd said. “It is easily the best way to get time to talk with him.”

Mr Lloyd was there to present the Mayor with a cap from his organisation and to let him know that the Battalion’s annual meeting had voted unanimously in favour of him becoming their patron.

“I asked Garry earlier this year to be our patron, which he accepted. He’s a very busy man but he is interested in the welfare of youth. He was very happy to accept our hat and we will be getting together next year to discuss how he can assist in furthering the objects of The Boys’ Brigade.”
