Local communities awash with Push Play Day activity

Last month’s Push Play Day saw the city awash with green balloons tied to letterboxes and brought together hundreds of children at QEII Park taking part in activities, including a jump jam session and an interschool car wash.

The car wash was a hit with the children, with 10 teams battling it out to win top spot as the best car cleaners in town. The event was a fun way to show how everyday activities can contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Christchurch City Council is a partner of the Push Play with Active Christchurch Partnership. The theme of this year’s Push Play campaign is Keep It Up, a celebration of those New Zealanders who are leading healthy active lifestyles.

Summer brings a number of local community events providing opportunities for people to get out and involved. Saturday, 29 October saw the opening of the refurbished Hei Hei Community Centre, the following day saw thousands of children enjoying the numerous activities on offer at the annual Childrens Day held at the Groynes, and Friday 4 November brought together the Hoon Hay community with the November Fiesta being held at the Rowley Avenue School.

  • Check out www.bethere.org.nz or visit your local library or Council service centre to find out what is coming up this summer. It’s so easy to be active, creative and involved in your local community.
