Organised by the Korean Society of Christchurch, Kiwi Koreans ran stalls offering crafts and a variety of food from their former homeland. The Jeonju Cultural Performance Group from Seoul demonstrated traditional Korean music, singing and dance, and Merrin School’s Korean Cultural Group performed a traditional fan dance.

The Korean festival was one of a series of events on in the city last month to mark the 10th anniversary of Christchurch’s sister-city link with the Seoul city of Songpa Gu. Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu is also getting into the spirit of the anniversary, hosting Alchemy, New Zealand’s first exhibition of Korean contemporary art (see story on p6).

The free exhibition runs until the end of February.
