Lister’s twisters make him Mr Skateboard

Aucklander Nick Lister’s finals run at last month’s 2005 Element Stakeboard Nationals, held at the Council’s Washington Way stake park, earned him the open title. Skateboarders from around the country came to the city for the event, presented by Cheapskates, and it drew good crowds. Lister, who also competes overseas, says the Council has a winner in the 7660 sq m Washington Way Reserve skate park. “It’s the best in the country,” he says. “More councils should get parks like this one together. We’ve got nothing like this in Auckland.” Chief judge Justin Watene, another Aucklander, agrees. “I love it,” he says. “Some of the top European skaters rate your park as the best. It’s good because it was designed by a skateboarder and he’s provided for all ability levels. From the kids right up to professionals, it’s a challenge.” The 2005 Element Skateboard Nationals presented by Cheapskates was supported by Hurley, Vans, Electric and Blackwells.
