Fashion’s centre stage
Fashion will again take centre stage at many of the New Zealand Cup and Show Week events.
While fashion has always been synonymous with Christchurch’s annual festive events, for the first time the city is staging Christchurch Casino Canterbury Fashion Week from November 4-12.
Director Denyse Saunders says the week of fashion events builds on the success of the Canterbury Fashion Collections and Awards over the last two years.
Christchurch City Council is supporting the celebration of Canterbury fashion, which is launched on 4 November with the spectacular Canterbury Fashion and Collection Awards at the Christchurch Town Hall.
Addington Raceway introduced the Best-Dressed Lady and Men competitions 20 years ago, and these days the event attracts 300 entries, with the line-up ranging from the extreme and outrageous to the expensive and classically elegant. A similar event will be held on course at Riccarton Park on Saturday, 12 November, where the fashion-conscious will compete for a trip for two to London.
A fun event is the Lindauer Likely Lads 2005 competition to select the “real top bloke” at Addington on Show Day. A stage and catwalk is set up on the Lindauer Lawn for contestants to strut their stuff in front of a usually boisterous crowd of spectators.
There are numerous fashion parades during the week showcasing winners from Canterbury Fashion Collections and Awards evenings. The week finishes on Saturday with The Strip Fashion Cup and Show Week Wrap Up Party hosted by the Oxford Terrace cafes and bars.
