Council backs Push Play
National Push Play day is Friday, 4 November and the City Council supports this Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) programme because it is line with a basic Council aim, to work for a healthy and active city.
SPARC’s programme is designed to publicise the benefits of doing 30 minutes a day of moderate activity, and to help motivate people, it has recently launched a new tool called the Push Play activator wheel. You can see it on the SPARC website, at www.sparc.org.nz
The wheel is for people who want to get active but don’t know where to start, and features a range of 30-minute activity options. SPARC, and the City Council, want Kiwis to understand that physical activity can be slotted into their lives — no matter how busy they are.
“The Activator’s designed to make physical activity simple, fun and varied,” says Deb Hurdle, SPARC’s participation general manager. “In today’s world, many people struggle with the work-family-life balance and often physical activity is not a priority. We want people to enjoy the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle by finding new ways to make physical activity a part of their daily lives. What we’re saying is, there are simple ways to get started by incorporating physical activity into your daily routine
“The Activator features everything — from ‘snacktivity’ breaks that you can do in front of the TV to outdoor activities. We’re also encouraging people to get active together by including activities you can do with friends — it’s amazing how much easier and more enjoyable physical activity is with the support of a buddy.”
- As well as the on-line version at www.sparc.org.nz the Push Play Activator is available through the 0800 ACTIVE line, from Sport Canterbury and at some Countdown supermarkets.
