A chance to save household power

Now is the time to take advantage of an energy efficiency scheme that is being offered to every householder in the Orion network area.

For just $5, householders can buy three energy efficient Ecobulbs. Each Ecobulb installed will save a householder more than $100 in power costs over its nine-year life. Installing three Ecobulbs will save more than $300 in power costs.

The scheme is being run by the Electricity Commission, Meridian Energy, and local network company Orion New Zealand (87.6 per cent owned by Christchurch City Council through its holding company). The scheme has the City Council’s support.

Vouchers offering three Ecobulbs for just $5 have been sent early this month to every Meridian Energy customer in the Orion network area. Non-Meridian customers can receive a voucher by sending a self-addressed envelope to: Ecobulbs Offer, P O Box 215, Christchurch.

The vouchers can be redeemed at any New World, PAK’nSAVE or Four Square store in Christchurch or central Canterbury.

Ecobulbs have been selected after extensive technical testing by Orion and have not previously been available in Christchurch or central Canterbury. They use the latest technology and provide a pleasing, warm light after taking a few seconds to reach maximum output.

Ecobulbs come in two sizes, 15W which is equivalent to a normal 75W bulb, and 20W, equivalent to a normal 100W bulb. They are available in both bayonet and screw fitting.
