Revamp for playground

The Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board has contributed funding for the installation of a fitness trail around the perimeter of Beckenham Park, as part of a planned upgrade.

This has also provided an opportunity to update the area with new play equipment and introduce some additional planting and rocks as areas of “natural play”.

Some of the current equipment no longer meets playground safety standards and needs to be removed or modified. The main structure of the fort will remain, with new pieces being added.

Prior to putting the concept together, Council staff presented ideas to some of the children at Beckenham School. Feedback was received from several classes about what they would like to see in the playground. Where possible, this feedback will be incorporated into the concept plan.

Construction of the playground upgrade should be under way soon.
