Fewer bags as part of Wastewise campaign

The City Council is stepping up its Wastewise campaign this year to encourage reduction in the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

This year’s annual allocation of Council rubbish bags is 26 and ratepayers will only be charged for those 26 bags.

Statistics show that half the contents of a typical household rubbish bag can be recycled or composted. This means most households could get by on 26 rubbish bags or one rubbish bag every fortnight if they recycle more effectively or shop wisely. Wastewise aims to encourage personal responsibility for household waste.
