Resource centre relocates

The Rowley Resource Centre has opened in its new premises in Rowley Avenue, opposite Rowley Primary School.

For many years, the centre had operated in the McCarthy Street shops, but had outgrown the space available. The new centre is larger and will offer all the same activities and services, and many more. An official opening is being held this month.

Bernard McMillan, Community Co-ordinator, and Alma Sturgess, Community Development Worker, will continue to work from the centre and be available to assist residents, families and groups living in the area.

Discussion with the Rowley community will be undertaken to ensure the centre provides what the community needs.

The centre will also need the continued help and support from the many volunteers who have given their time over the years it has been operating.

The Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board, which funded the rental of the previous shop, is continuing to fund the new building. The board has supported the centre for many years with funding and assisted with obtaining the new building.

The centre has been able to bring together other groups in the community, and has established links with other service providers in the area, including Rowley Primary School.

The centre will continue to expand and bring together groups working in the area.
