Skate/BMX update

Council staff are updating a 1999 draft strategy on skateboarding, in-line skating and freestyle BMX and will also take a preliminary look at whether the city needs another area for freestyle BMX riding.

Since the original strategy was drafted, these sports have continued to grow in popularity around the world as recreation and as competitive sports, last month’s Council meeting heard. Encouraging people to be active and healthy is one of the City Council’s aims.
