Cultural diversity celebrated

This year’s Culture Galore event, held in early March at Ray Blank Park, attracted record numbers. Fifty-three groups from 38 different cultures participated in the event, entertaining crowds of more than 5000.

Community Recreation Advisor Jacqui Leask says the day was a celebration of cultural diversity in our community.

“It’s a chance for people to experience international cultures without leaving Christchurch. The groups that attended this year illustrated the diversity in our community with an amazing display of song and dance performances, food, arts and information stalls.”

It is the fourth year the free event has been held and Jacqui says there are plans for another one next year.

The event is funded by the Riccarton/Wigram and Fendalton/Waimairi Community Boards, sponsored by Plains FM96.9 and organised by the City Council.
