Heathcote project moves ahead

Christchurch City Council’s plans for its exciting Heathcote Valley Park development will not be stalled by the recent Tamaki Heritage Experience decision to review its Ferrymead project timelines.

The Council has approved a contractor to start work on the extensive wetland and waterway project on the Heathcote Valley floor. This work will include creation of wetlands and a saltmarsh area with associated plantings; water treatment ponds; walking/cycling/horse-riding tracks; and two new sportsfields. The Council will also continue with its rehabilitation of the former landfill site at Woodhill, Ferrymead.

“Rehabilitation of this area will ensure that health and safety requirements have been met for both the Tamaki project and public use of the site,” says Christchurch City Council Project Manager Darren Moses.
