Upgrade of centre on track

The upgrade of the Bromley Community Centre is on track for completion this month. Community Development Worker Kerry Voight, who has been based at the centre since last November, says the upgrade marks a new era for the centre.

“The centre is the site of the former Bromley School. It’s quite old and has been in need of a major upgrade for some time. Lack of space has been an issue, with room for only one activity to be carried out in the main building at any one time.” The upgrade of the centre began last year and includes landscaping work and new purpose-built meeting rooms. It is also being repainted.

Kerry’s focus over the next few months is on increasing the numbers using the centre and conducting ongoing research into the needs of the community.

“Everyone is welcome. There’s always a cup of tea on offer and I welcome any feedback or ideas on the kind of activities and services that people would like to see at the centre,” she says.

Kerry is employed by Te Whare Roimata, with funding for her role provided by the Hagley/ Ferrymead Community Board.

The Bromley Community Centre is located at 45 Bromley Road (off Mace’s Road). For more information contact Kerry on 389 1657.
