Charlesworth Tidal Wetlands
The Charleswor th Tidal Wetlands, next to Humphreys Drive, are attracting considerable interest. The wetlands have been designed to:

  • increase the feeding and nesting habitat for wading birds
  • protect and enhance native plant communities and wildlife habitat
  • provide oppor tunities for the interpretation of the natural and cultural heritage, recreation and community without detriment to ecological values.

Although the site construction was completed in September last year, time for soil settlement has been allowed before planting takes place in May and June. It has been encouraging to note that several species have nested at the site already.

Leisure, Parks and Waterways Study
During the latter half of 2003, consultants undertook a Leisure, Parks and Waterways study of the Hagley-Ferrymead area, linking in with sports and leisure groups, residents’ groups, schools and focus groups.

The study’s aim has been to establish the current and future needs of the community.

The findings have revealed important issues of need within this area for the community and provided an excellent resource for the planning and budgeting of facilities in our parks, leisure and waterway areas.
