Comment sought on new brothels bylaw The Christchurch City Council is looking to introduce a bylaw to regulate the location of brothels and control
signage advertising commercial sexual services. If the bylaw is introduced, brothels would only be permitted in the part of the central city highlighted in the map to the right. Signs advertising commercial sexual services would only be allowed on premises where the services are provided. These premises would also be in the part of the central city highlighted
to the right. The only information that could be given on a sign would be the street number, and the name of the business or the name of the person providing the service. Signs could not show a picture, be greater than 0.3 square metres in surface area or be lit by a flashing light. Only one sign would be allowed per property. A copy of the Council’s Statement of Proposal, which includes the proposed Christchurch City Brothels (Location and Signage) Bylaw is available to view at Civic Offices, Tuam St; Council
Service Centres; Christchurch City Libraries; and on the Council’s website www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay Submissions on the bylaw may be made online or by writing to the Council Secretary, Christchurch City Council, P.O.Box 237, Christchurch. Submitters need to state if they would like to
be heard in person by the Council’s Prostitution Reform Act Subcommittee. Submissions close 5pm, Friday, 16 April. |
