National award for council book


Three-year-old Sam Leeming Holmes,of Christchurch,has one of his first tastes of driving—an old tractor at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve. Christchurch City Council Leisure has won the 1999 NZ Recreation Association (NZRA) award for an outstanding project with a budget over $40,000 for its "Walk Christchurch: 60 short walks that explore your city" book.

A comprehensive guide to walks in and around Christchurch, the book is a valuable resource for locals and visitors.

It features detailed information including how long walks take, pushchair and wheelchair access, and environmental care.

The NZRA awards are presented to recognise and reward innovation and excellence in the provision of recreation or leisure programmes or projects.
