Something for everyone at Parenting Week

Something for everyone at Parenting Week

More than 30 seminars and workshops focusing on the family and parenting skills will be held as part of Parenting Week from 9-15 September.

The week, coordinated by the Christchurch City Council, will include a variety of family activities such as walks around the city and the telling of children’s stories. Pre-school story times will be held at City Council libraries and various special displays and exhibitions will be held around the city.

The Council’s Children’s Advocate, Lyn Campbell, says that quality parenting builds strong healthy families which bring stability and value to communities — and Christchurch becomes an even better place to live.

“It’s not easy being a parent,” she says. “Parents need all the support and encouragement they can get.”

The week is about, “What can we do together as a community to support parents in their role. It’s about exploring how to engage people and address their different needs. Most of all it’s about celebrating families,” she says.

“The quality of our living in the future is dependent upon the investment we make in families today.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the activities, seminars and workshops during Parenting Week.
