New Banners mark Town Hall's 30th

New Banners mark Town Hall's 30th

More than 30 banners have been put up around the city centre to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Christchurch Town Hall. The banners also acknowledge the important role that performing arts play in our city. Land for the Town Hall was purchased in 1963, the foundation stone was laid in 1969 and the hall was officially opened on 30 September 1972. In 1973, Warren and Mahoney was awarded a gold medal by the NZ Institute of Architects for its design. Lisa Hoffman, the Council's Promotion Co-ordinator, says it is great to be able to acknowledge the anniversary of the much-loved Town Hall through these banners.
