Market street 'not needed'

The stretch of Cambridge Terrace running east off Colombo Street that the City Council had considered closing for a weekend fresh produce market is not now needed for the project, says Mayor Garry Moore.

Speaking at last month’s City Council meeting, the Mayor asked the Council to withdraw its proposal for Cambridge Terrace. “It’s no longer needed for the Central City produce market,” Mr Moore said. “Another site, a Council-owned site, has been identified and this will be referred to a Council committee to take the project forward.”
