Local Govt Bill on track

Chris Carter, the new Minister of Local Government, believes the Local Government Bill will become law by the end of the year. The Bill has been referred back to the select committee and Mr Carter — who was in Christchurch on a visit to the City Council — believes there will be some changes to the Bill “I’ll be interested to see what the committee comes up with,” he says. “Nonetheless, once the bill comes back to the House its progress should be rapid.”
