Support for Youthline

Youthline’s new around-the-clock, seven-day phone service is being supported by the City Council with a $25,000 grant in each of the next three years. The money will help pay the cost of a coordinator at the city centre and allow more calls to be taken.

The new service upgrades Youthline’s current phone service which operates independently in Christchurch and six other cities. Last year Youthline Christchurch answered 1649 calls. But because it was not always staffed, many more calls went unanswered. Representative David Stebbing says the local community has been generous. “The Christchurch City Mission and the Christchurch City Council have gone the extra mile for us,” he says.
