St Martins River Day

The mud bath was popular for children at the St Martins River Day — perhaps not so with parents when the children arrived home.

Christchurch turned on a 25deg-plus day for the River Day that was the idea of the St Martins Youth Centre three years ago.

This year more than 70 crafts entered the raft race from Waltham Road bridge to Hansens Park. Following the race more than 1000 people enjoyed water-themed activities in the park.

The Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board has supported community events over many years.

It was so again this year and all of them were held in warm weather.

One of the last summer community events in Christchurch was the one at Hoon Hay (bottom).

Local groups were supportive again as a strong following has built up in the district over the last five years.

Water was a popular theme for several activities. The Hoon Hay Youth Centre organised a water slide competition and St Nicholas’ Scout Group offered a chance to "drench a scout" with its fund-raising stunt.
