Fireworks at Showtime

Fashion with flair at the races.
Canterbury’s premier regional celebration Showtime Canterbury will present the best that Canterbury has to offer until 18 November.

Feature events include favourites such as the Meridian Energy Fireworks Extravaganza — this year promising even more explosive fun with a display simulcast on Lite FM radio 94.5FM and 1260AM.

Thousands are expected at New Brighton on 5 November for the Carnival and Mardi Gras before the fireworks that will begin at 9.30pm.

The 71st Royal Show brings the country to town, and racing enthusiasts will be galloping from event to event to keep pace with what’s on offer, such as the CD New Zealand trotting Cup Day, Air New Zealand Race Day, CD New Zealand Cup Carnival, and Cup Day. These events offer opportunities for a flutter on the horses, and a chance to sparkle on the catwalk in the Best Dressed Lady and Man competitions.

New events this year will include Audio Overload — a youth concert featuring top New Zealand artists performing in the Caledonian Hall.

Canterbury Ballet Company’s Triple Bill presents a top-quality ballet with highlights from Don Quixote and Swan Lake.

Circus Under The Stars will give audiences the rare opportunity to see cutting-edge outdoor aerial displays, acrobatics and clowning from CPIT students. The Montana Charity Duck Race promises lots of laughs and the chance to win fabulous prizes for those who get their rubber duckies over the line first. Akaroa Harbour Cruises and Swimming with the Dolphins offer a chance to get really close to the water, and the Canterbury Draught Brewery Tour will include a complimentary tasting of the well-known brew.

From fashion to fine art, petanque to pottery, the 50 events over two weeks promise something for everyone.
