School festival full of vibrancy

Vibrant, authentic, imaginative, energetic, contemporary and fun... all words that will capture the essence of this year’s Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival.

Now in its 21st year, Christchurch Primary Schools’ Cultural Festival that will boast an inspirational showcase of multicultural performances and special guests — plus a line-up of celebrity MCs including Stacey Daniels, Kimo Winiata and local Tahu FM’s Lisa Reedy.

In addition to a variety of stage performance, the festival will include an impressive Visual Art Exhibition, featuring artworks created by the children.

More than 1600 Canterbury children are expected to perform in the festival in the Christchurch Town Hall Auditorium Monday 17 to Thursday 20 September. Concerts will run daily 7pm-9.15pm as well as a matinee on Thursday 20 September at 1pm-3pm.

Extravaganza
This multi-cultural extravaganza will feature traditional and contemporary performances by about 40 of Canterbury’s most accomplished primary and intermediate schools and children’s performance groups, representing more than 10 different cultures.

High-school performance groups will also be featured.

More than 17,000 children have taken part in the festivals to date.

Objectives of the festival, funded by the City Council, are to foster participation, not competition, while striving for excellence.

It also celebrates and promotes cultural diversity and installs in children a sense of pride and excitement in their culture and performance.

Tickets from Ticketek: adults $10, children 13 years and under $5. Group concession applies to these rates — buy nine tickets, get one free.

Cultural Festival 2001 is a unique opportunity to experience an authentic, vibrant celebration of Aotearoa’s many different cultures.
