Council to develop voluntary sector bond

The City Council wants developing a relationship between the Council and the voluntary sector to "build a better future for the people of the city."

The Council has a proposed statement of intent with the underlying philosophy that the voluntary sector is fundamental to the development of a democratic, socially inclusive and prosperous society.

The statement of intent is an expression of the Council’s commitment to work with the voluntary sector for the betterment of society, to nurture and support voluntary activity and to jointly influence national policy where appropriate.

This statement is not viewed as an end in itself. Specific actions will be developed setting out how the Council will put these values and commitments into practice.

The Council is seeking feedback from the voluntary and community sectors and iwi/Maori groups regarding the draft statement of intent.

Copies are available from the Social Policy Team, PO Box 237, or on the Council website: http://www.ccc.govt.nz/consultation/RelationshipWithTheVoluntaryAndCommunitySector.asp
