Key Points

  • According to the latest Annual Survey of Residents, the majority of resident were aware of developments having taken place in their local area during the last twelve months.
  • Most residents who were aware of development in their local area indicated that they approved of the work undertaken. However, a small but steadily growing group disapproved.
  • 71 percent of residents thought developments throughout the City had made Christchurch a better place to live.
  • Nearly all residents had visited the Central City some time during the year.
  • 76 percent of residents were happy with the range of things to do in the Central City.
  • Opposition has increased to further development on the Port Hills particularly in relation to further housing development.
  • 64 percent of residents supported the Council’s involvement in trying to attract the aviation industry to Wigram.
