Community news at the library

Fendalton Library
Fendalton Library: as well as books, has on-line databases that give access to community learning and scholarships, community groups and funding.
One of the best places to find out what’s going on in the community is the Fendalton Library, on the corner of Jeffreys and Clyde Roads.

The library — and service centre — is committed to supporting community initiatives and the foyer is always full of displays, notices and Council and community information.

As well, the library has on-line databases that give access to community learning and scholarships, community groups and funding.

Librarian Marion Ogier says the library should be the first port of call for information about the area.

The Learning Centre’s children’s librarians, Stephanie and John, offer pre-school story times every Tuesday from 11am-11.30am and Thursday at 2pm-2.30pm.

These are fun sessions with two dynamic storytellers.

During Kidsfest, Stephanie and John will join Sunshine the Clown and magician Gavin Becker in a library magical book event.

Fendalton Library has six public Internet terminals that offer free but selected access to the Net and two email and Internet terminals that offer full Net access at $1 for 15 minutes.

Encyclopaedias and other databases are available from the public Internet terminals and catalogue terminals.

The library team offers small group sessions for residents wishing to become familiar with on-line resources.

Each session lasts up to an hour and is held in the Learning Centre. Classes are limited to four at a time to allow for hands-on experience.

People interested should check at the library.

A walking group leaves the library every Thursday at 10am as part of the Walk n Talk programme.

On alternate Thursdays, the walk is followed by a presentation by a guest speaker.
