Mrs McGinty and Friends visit Our City

Mrs McGinty and Friends, an exhibition celebrating New Zealand children’s literature, opens at Our City O-Tautahi on 21 August and runs until 9 September. The exhibition is the result of the combined efforts of author Gavin Bishop and Te Tai Tamariki Aotearoa Children’s Literature Trust.

Visitors can expect a colourful exhibition-version of Mr Bishop’s classic Christchurch-based work Mrs McGinty and the Bizarre Plant, and also work from other New Zealand authors.

Te Tai Tamariki is supported and endorsed by Margaret Mahy, Joy Cowley, Mr Bishop, the Children’s Literature Foundation of New Zealand (Storylines) and many other New Zealand authors, illustrators, publishers and booksellers.

The trust’s board currently consists of a group of enthusiastic professionals in the field of children’s literature. The trust aims to create a national resource of original illustrations and manuscripts by New Zealand authors and artists and to establish a centre where the public, school groups, researchers, writers and illustrators can access these materials.

Our City O-Tautahi is a council community exhibition and venue space on the corner of Oxford Tce and Worcester Blvd by the Worcester St bridge. Exhibitions are open 10am-4pm, Mon-Sat and admission is free.
