David Close awards for 2006 presented
This year’s Christchurch City David Close study awards have been presented to George Kanyamba, Lynley Robinson and Julien Arts. Mr Close was a city councillor for 23 years and the Council set up the awards in 2001 to recognise his example of public service and encourage young people to emulate him.
The awards are open to any young resident who has gained entry to Canterbury or Lincoln universities or the Christchurch Polytech Institute of Technology (CPIT). They pay for study for up to four years in a subject which is relevant to a career in local government.
Mr Kanyemba is studying for a commerce degree in transport studies at Lincoln University. Ms Robinson is among this year’s intake for CPIT’s horticultural course and Mr Arts is an honours student in civil engineering at the University of Canterbury.
