Getting fit for pregnancy and beyond
The City Council is running special pregnancy yoga and aquamum classes for expectant mothers and women who have recently given birth. The gentle exercise helps relieve back pain, improves posture and circulation and teaches relaxation techniques.
The mother and baby yoga classes are a great way to ease back into exercise, helping restore body condition. Term four classes begin on 10 October.
Pregnancy Yoga: A class for mums-to-be. Through gentle exercise you will relieve back pain, improve your posture and circulation, and develop relaxation techniques in preparation for childbirth. Classes are at Pioneer on Tuesdays 7.30-8.45pm, and at QEII on Wednesdays 9.30-10.30am, and on Thursdays 6-7pm.
Aquamums: Maintain your health and fitness in a weightless environment. In this class you can improve your posture and circulation in the period leading up to childbirth. This class is held at Pioneer on Wednesdays 9.15-10am.
Mother and Baby Yoga: A gentle way to restore your body and bond with your baby after giving birth. This mothers and baby class is designed to stretch and tone rounded shoulders and a strengthen the pelvic floor. Massage your baby and give them gentle exercise in a playful, bonding atmosphere. Suitable for babies from 14 weeks to pre-walking. Please bring a blanket and a toy for baby. Classes are on at QEII on Wednesdays 1-2.15pm, and at Pioneer on Mondays from 9.15-10.30am.
