Community Outcomes: Chch the way you want it
Christchurch City Council has completed a process to find out what we the people of Christchurch want for our city. These statements are called Community Outcomes.
The City Council led the process of pulling together the outcomes. The experience of many individuals, groups and organisations from across the city contributed to the process.
“Council led it, but the outcomes come from the community,” says Research and Policy Manager Jane Cartwright. “They’re written on behalf of the people of Christchurch for everyone to use.”
Work on collecting information began in 2002. Since then, the Council has been consulting with members of the community, local businesses and community organisations to discover what are the factors that all our communities hold as goals for creating the Christchurch that we want to live in.
The Outcomes provide not only the basis for joint work between Council and organisations like the Canterbury District Health Board, Ministry for Social Development, Department of Internal Affairs or Ministry for Pacific Island Affairs, but they are also the cornerstone of the City Council’s own planning.
The Community Outcomes form the focus of the Council’s long-term community plan (called Our Community Plan Christchurch — Otautahi).
There will be a period of public consultation on this long-term City Council planning process, including on the Council’s Strategic Directions and activities the Council’s staff will do to contribute to achievement of the Community Outcomes. This will be completed by 2006.
How the Council proposes to finance activities is a major component of its long-term community plan. |
