A French Connection at Our City O-Tautahi
This month at Our City O-Tautahi, your community space: 60 Years Ago… Celebrating the Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between France and New Zealand. The exhibition, commissioned by the French Embassy, includes photographs and personal accounts from men and women who were involved in this early period of diplomatic relations between France and New Zealand, as well as essays written by academics from both countries.
Find out about the first French explorers to New Zealand, the attempts at colonisation in Akaroa, the arrival in 1886 of the first Consul from France, the respective representation of France and New Zealand, other countries’ public opinion and the decision to establish diplomatic relations in 1945 in its context.
