Refuse station closures

Council refuse stations will close for one-to-two days over the next two months for refit work in preparation for the opening of the Kate Valley landfill in June.

A new method of transporting rubbish is being introduced. Machines have been installed at all stations which allow rubbish to be compacted into containers which are then put on trucks and transported to the new landfill. Areas have been sealed for the storage of these containers.

Currently rubbish is compacted directly onto the trucks. The new method will reduce the number of truck journeys required.

During the closures, weighbridges will be installed in front of the new compacting machinery.

Closures will occur at Styx Mill and Metro refuse stations this month and at Parkhouse Road refuse station in June.
