New Parklands library taking shape

Christchurch City Libraries’ new Parklands Community Library is taking shape, emerging from the shell of what was the Nor th Brighton Baptist Church. The library is due to open in July, offering changing spaces catering for different customers at different times of the day, as well as a café.

Fendalton open longer

Fendalton Community Library held a celebration to mark the doubling of its Saturday opening hours.

A new resource consent means the library now opens from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. It is also open from 9am to 8pm every weekday.

Fendalton Community Librarian Margaret Clune says the new Saturday hours bring the facility into line with other Christchurch City Libraries. “Being open on Saturday afternoons is much more convenient for a lot of people who’d like to use the library at the weekend,” she says.

To reduce the possible impact of extended hours on local residents, the Council has new road markings to reduce street parking and has put in more spaces and an improved layout in the car park behind the library.

Fendalton’s new hours are the final stage in an overhaul of opening times across the city, resulting in the 13 Christchurch City Libraries now opening for an extra 39.5 hours each week.
