Development Strategy strikes a chord

More than 300 people turned out at the Art Gallery recently to listen to the Mayoral Discussion on the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy. The mayors of Christchurch City and the Banks Peninsula, Waimakariri and Selwyn districts joined with the chairman of Environment Canterbury and Transit New Zealand’s chief executive to discuss issues around dealing with growth in their areas.

The strategy development has had a lot of news coverage and public discussion and the joint councils’team organising it has so far received well over 1200 feedback forms, hundreds of calls to the 0800 URB DEV line and many emails. A series of 12 public meetings began earlier this month, with four in the city and others at Lincoln and Rolleston.

Dates for those still to be held (with all meetings running from 7.30 to 9pm) are:

  • Monday, 16 May Diamond Harbour Community Hall
  • Monday, 16 May Avonside’s Te Amorangi, 349 Woodham Rd
  • Wednesday, 18 May Kaiapoi Service Centre 125 Raven Quay
  • Thursday 19 May Waimakariri District Council Rangiora, 215 High St
  • Monday 23 May Bishopdale Community Centre, Bishopdale Mall
  • Wednesday 25 May Sydenham Salvation Army, 17 Southampton St
  • Thursday 26 May Lyttelton Recreation Centre, 25 Winchester St

Also under way is the Greater Christchurch UDS Roadshow, which is taking a labelled car and displays out to malls and other public areas in the UDS area.
