Our world by the region's children

Christchurch Art Gallery’s biennial exhibition of children’s art celebrates the artistic achievements of primary and intermediate school students from throughout Canterbury.

My World includes 135 works and showcases visual art practice in our classrooms, capturing the early stages in the development of the region’s
future artists. About 60 schools have provided works selected by the students and their teachers. Students were asked to think about their identity, their world and how they saw their place within that world.

“The exhibition highlights the creativity and diversity of the region’s young artists,” says Christchurch Art Gallery Schools Officer Judith Hoult. “It expresses the visions and reflections of Canterbury children – how they see themselves and the world around them.”

Gallery Director Tony Preston says, “The exhibition is part of the Gallery’s ongoing programme to promote community participation and learning, and is part of a biennial series that’s always been extremely popular with students, their families and indeed, all Gallery visitors.”

Paint for the exhibition colour scheme was sponsored by Resene.
