Update on makeover for causeway More than 200 replies were received from the public on the City Council’s draft plans for landscaping the causeway (a section of Ferry and Main roads, across McCormacks Bay). The proposal put out for public feedback in April involved planting Norfolk pines on the south side of the causeway, along the front of the reserve at the Mt Pleasant Community Centre. It also involved installing six large planter boxes containing pohutukawas along the northern side of the roadway. Fibre optic cables on the south side of the causeway prevent the planting of any large trees on this section. City Council consultation leader Lorraine Wilmshurst says several issues and concerns were raised by the public and City Council officers were working through the responses. “These concerns need to be investigated before we can progress the project.” The planned makeover for the causeway is part of a Council initiative to beautify Christchurch’s main arterial routes and funds have been set aside for landscaping and planting. The causeway is set to be the first section of road to receive this landscaping treatment.
