Land will be bought in the Halswell area so that in the future a larger library could be provided for this fast-growing part of the city. Libraries manager Sue Sutherland says the Council is securing the future, but no new library is planned or budgeted at this stage.

“This area is developing and we expect that within 10-to-15 years it will be up around 20,000 people,” she says. “The City Council is keen to secure the opportunity to develop a larger library in the future.
