A month of music

May is New Zealand Music Month and Christchurch City Libraries are running a series of free performances, along with competitions and a special offer — get your fourth music tape/CD loan free, once you have borrowed three music tapes/CDs.

“Many people do not know that libraries have CDs, tapes and music scores to loan, so NZ Music Month is the perfect time for us to get the information out there,’ said Rachel Ware, marketing co-ordinator at Christchurch City Libraries.

“We are looking forward to having a lot of local musicians playing in some of the libraries not just in May, but all year round.”

Christchurch City Libraries have all types of music resources from the recent bestsellers through to sound effects and jazz on CD, tape and scores. Access is also provided to music based websites. Library members can borrow recordings from $1, and scores for free.

The Council is also running concerts every Friday during May in Cathedral Square from 12.15pm to 1.15pm. The performers will be a cross section of Christchurch artists
playing original music.
