Botanic Gardens bridge reopens

The remodelled kiosk footbridge, which leads into the Botanic Gardens from the Armagh Street carpark in Hagley Park, has been officially opened by Councillor Carole Anderton, chair of the Council’s Parks Gardens and Waterways Committee. The old 1960s structure has been widened and the curve of its deck flattened.

Parks and Waterways Manager Anne Greenup says the old bridge was too narrow to carry the thousands of people who use it every week, and too steep for many. “The new bridge is twice as wide, with a more gentle slope. Visitors to the gardens can now stand at the handrails looking up and down the river, leaving space for others to pass.”
