Skating facility to be extended

Plans to extend the skating facility at Washington Reserve, Moorhouse Avenue, are moving forward.

City Council efforts to put in an extension were stalled for some time by legal issues but now the resource consent process for the extension is about to start.

The Council is also consulting with businesses in the area over the extension, before lodging the application.

The present facility consists of a learner and intermediate areas and the extension will add two further, more difficult, stages. The first will create a street skating arena and the second a more challenging area for advanced skaters.

If resource consent is granted additions to the park will be 16 car parks, landscaping and lighting for safety improvement.
