Sister-cities share more than a name

Artwork by school pupils from Christchurch will be on display at the Centre of Contemporary Art (COCA) from January 7-31. That’s Christchurch, New Zealand and Christchurch, England.

The English borough of Christchurch is one of Christchurch’s sister-cities.

The exhibition will display artworks by pupils from both areas with the theme "Art on Avon: Reflecting our Rivers", for not only do the city and borough share the same name, so too do their rivers.

Christchurch City Council International Relations Co-ordinator Barbara August says she is looking forward to seeing how the students interpret the theme, considering the geographical differences. Christchurch is located on the south coast of England, a few miles east of Bournemouth. The formal Sister City agreement was signed in 1975.
