Feedback sought on strategy
The Draft Recreation and Sport Strategy brings the perspectives of different organisations involved in sport and recreation in Christchurch into one comprehensive strategy. It tackles issues such as increasing participation and public awareness of recreation and sports programmes and motivating people to take part. It also looks at how recreation and sport providers can best work together to meet the needs of the public and ensure that programmes and activities are accessible. Christchurch City Councillor Graham Condon says the recent Ministerial Taskforce of Sport, Fitness and Leisure noted the lack of a common vision and that "recreation and sports structures are fragmented, lack integration, co-ordination and leadership". "The draft strategy attempts to tackle some of these issues at a city level by getting the various organisations involved to work together in a co-ordinated and collaborative way." Copies of the Draft Recreation and Sport Strategy and response forms can be collected from libraries and service centres, or visit www.ccc.govt.nz/Publications/RecreationSportsStrategy, or phone the Leisure Call Centre on 372-2840. The closing date for feedback responses is January 31, 2001 |
