First contact at a local level . .

Yvonne Palmer
Yvonne Palmer, Chairperson, Shirley-Papanui Community Board.
Chairperson's Message . . .

Many of the initiatives your Community Board proceeds with have come from suggestions from residents.

That is the Community Board’s role: to be the first contact at local level and advocate on the community’s behalf to the City Council.

If you have a concern or a suggestion please make contact with one of the board members or the Advocacy team at the Papanui Service Centre, so that we can assist you immediately.

At all board meetings, held on the first Wednesday of every month, there is time available for you to attend and express your views.

A phone call to me or the Community Secretary at the Service Centre (354-1705) advising us that you would like to attend, is all that is required.

The Council has given the Community Board extra funding in the budget for local community workers initiatives which may be ongoing for three years.

The Board has made the decision this year that Delta Trust, Shirley Community Trust and the Belfast Community will receive funding for community workers.

Another project that the Board and staff have been involved in is the new residents’ groups.

It is great to see that we now have Redwood, Northcote, Northlands and Papanui West operating.

Should you like to take part in these groups please make contact as I know that all members will be welcome.

Board members are working closely with Council staff on the Northern Roading Options.

The Papanui Councillors, Cr Sally Thompson, Cr Graham Condon and I, are members of the Working Party.

It is expected that the public consultation process will be starting towards the end of May.

We shall keep you informed.
