Exciting plan for old hospital

The former administration block at Sunnyside Hospital and a reserve along Annex Road are being considered for purchase by the Council.

A plan for proposed landscaping and subdivision of the former Sunnyside Hospital site.
Chairman's Message...

My board and I are enthusiastic about the proposal to obtain additional reserve land and a building from the subdivided former Sunnyside Hospital.

This is one of the most exciting proposals to come before my board for some time and I think the prospect of obtaining such a reserve and the historic administration building next to the reserve worth pursuing with vigour.

My initial reaction to the proposal was that it would be great for the board’s area and that it is a welcome change to be offered it without the threat of demolition.

I see such an acquisition as having wonderful possibilities. People would be horrified if the trees and building disappeared in a subdivision.

The administration building would make an excellent community centre in a developing area that has no building available for this purpose.

The land will make an excellent reserve for the Spreydon area that does not have many
reserves.

Although the Council has acquired a significant area of land for reserves at the A and P site, which is not far away, the Sunnyside reserve would have a different purpose, something like a botanical garden. —
