Pupils have bond with Bexley Wetlands Pupils of St James School have formed a strong partnership with the Bexley Wetland Trust that is involved in the restoration of the Bexley Wetland. The school took on the commitment as a millennium project and last year potted seedlings, obtained by the trust from the native seed- bank at Riccarton Bush. The pupils also learnt about the trees they potted and the cultural values for Maori. They took the potted seeds home to look after them and then planted them at the wetlands as their contribution to Arbor Day. Pegasus Lions Club donated large kowhai trees for that day and club members impressed the children with a barbecue on planting day. The pupils are committed to the restoration project and will be there on their Clean- Up- The- World activities later in the year. They will also pot more seedlings from the Riccarton Bush for Arbor Day next year. The trust holds education sessions with hands- on experience for the pupils.
